How To Remove Mold and Mildew In A Bathroom Print E-mail

Mold and mildew in bathrooms is caused by excessive moisture.  This moisture can be caused by the lack of an exhaust fan, a shower that is used frequently, hot showers or the location of the bathroom.

Even the the addition of an exhaust fan, mold may still build up on ceilings, tilework and around your shower or tub.  There are many products on the market to clean and remove mold and mildew on tile and walls.  They all work well and usually come in a 32 ounce can with a spray nozzle.  However, before trying these industrial products, there are household items you can use that may save you some money.

  1. Mix a 50/50 solution of bleach and water in a spray bottle
  2. Spray the solution on the tile or wall where the mold is located
  3. Let the solution sit on the surface for 10 or 15 minutes
  4. The mold should be softened and easily removed with a sponge or towel

Remember to open windows or use a fan when applying the bleach and water.  For people with breathing problems, wear a mask or have someone else apply the mixture.
