How To Mix Concrete Print E-mail

Mixing concrete for a patio, stepping blocks or other projects is very easy.  The hardest part will be lifting the heavy bags of concrete and pouring it into the mixing container.

Materials Needed

Pre-mixed concrete mix, spade, shovel, wheel barrow, water, safety glasses, gloves

Steps For Mixing Concrete

  1. Pour the pre-mixed concrete into a wheel barrow or other mixing container.
  2. Add water to the mix slowly and mix using a spade or a shovel.
  3. To mix the concrete, move the spade or shovel under the concrete mix, lift it up and fold the concrete on top of itself.
  4. Check the consistency of the concrete.  If the mix has too much water in it the concrete will run off of the shovel.  If it is too dry it will crumble easily.

Hints

Depending on your physical strength, only mix as much concrete in the wheel barrow as you can easy move.

Wear old clothes and safety equipment such as glasses and gloves.  The concrete mix will get on your shoes and pants and may possibly splash in your face.
