How To Paint Formica |
|
|
|
Formica is a smooth, shiny laminate product. Most people think that it cannot be painted. With the correct preparation work, you can paint your formica countertop or backsplash with ease. When painting hard to stick to surfaces, such as formica, the surface needs to be dull, clean and dry. Follow the steps below to paint formica.
Materials Needed
Cleaning solution, sandpaper, primer, paint, brush & roller
Preparation
- Clean the formica with Fantastik or Formula 409 to remove grease, oil and dirt.
- Lightly sand the formica to de-gloss it. Use 150 grit sandpaper
Directions
- Use a damp rag to remove the sanding dust from the preparation steps above.
- Apply a bonding primer to the formica surface. We suggest rolling the primer on, as it gives a smoother finish.
- Apply a two finish coats of a satin or gloss enamel paint. You can use either latex or oil based paint.
