How To Write a Haiku Print E-mail

A haiku is a Japanese poem that is three lines long and arranged by having five syllables in the first line, seven in the second and five in the third.

Tips for writing a haiku:

  • Develop a setting or theme for your poem
  • Write down descriptive words that will help communicate your message
  • Start forming short sentences with your keywords
  • Try to sort out your first, second and third lines of the poem

In order to make sure that each line has the correct number of syllables you may have to substitute words, so be sure to have a thesaurus handy.

Covered with the flowers,
Instantly I'd like to die
In this dream of ours!
